Consumed{Plastic Wrap}

Standard

I’ve noticed this product is showing up in social media lately so I figured what better time to write about it than now!

I’m talking about Bee’s Wrap! Bee’s Wrap is made with organic cotton infused with beeswax, organic jojoba oil, and tree resin and is a great alternative to plastic wrap and tin foil. I started using these almost a year ago so I’ve had a good amount of time to familiarize myself with them.

Let me tell you why this stuff rocks! The number one benefit, in my opinion, is that you simply wipe them down with cool soapy water and reuse them over and over again! That means you’re not producing any trash and you’re saving money. Plus, beeswax and jojoba oil have natural antibacterial qualities that help to keep your food fresh for longer so less food waste as well! Another thing that’s pretty cool is that because they are made of beeswax and tree resin, they stick to themselves. I have found that they work best when you can wrap something up in them. My sister loves the one for sandwiches. Apparently, so does everyone else because it’s currently out of stock!

If you own these you can dramatically reduce the need for plastic food storage in your kitchen! Out with the plastic leeching chemicals and in with the sweet bee goodness! Although some people seem to think they stink, I LOVE the way they smell of beeswax! I also love that they are handmade by 5 women in Vermont. It’s always good to buy American made products because it means no forced child/slave labor. They are reusable, biodegradable, and compostable. At the end of your wrap’s life, you can cut it into strips and add it to your compost heap, or wrap them around pieces of kindling and use as a natural fire starter.

Overall, I give them my seal of approval (no pun intended) but there are a couple downfalls. If you have furry pets be prepared to have some of their hair stuck to these things. I do my best to clean them and put them away but inevitably, they manage to collect a few cat hairs here and there. Also, I haven’t had any luck with getting them to seal to the tops of bowls. Maybe my hands aren’t warm enough? My solution to this is to just put a rubber band around the top of the bowl to hold them on. Not a big deal! The downfalls certainly don’t outweigh the awesomeness so I strongly suggest people add these to their mindful kitchens. They have loads of benefits, plus, they come in really cute print options!
