Her Commander

Page

In July of 2016, I bought a 24′ 1978 Dodge Commander, which I now affectionately refer to as Mander. I spent over a year rehabilitating and  renovating her with my own two hands. To say I had no idea what I was doing would be an understatement. I hadn’t even traveled in a motorhome before, let alone torn apart the insides of one and put it back together. I learned carpentry, plumping, electrical and a whole lot of tenacity as I rebuilt water damaged areas, redesigned spaces and updated the overall look. I outfitted her with a composting toilet and solar so I could take my new home off grid and chase the solitude of nature. It was the hardest and the best thing I’ve ever done.

I finished in October of 2017, and after selling off most of my worldly possessions, I loaded up my cats and embraced the great unknown. I embarked on a journey of trust in myself and the universe and it did not disappoint. I have been rewarded tenfold for taking this leap of faith. In the time I’ve been on the road, I have met countless amazing humans, seen breathtaking sights, camped in pockets of paradise and of course, had my fair share of breakdowns (I have since added mechanic to my list of learned trades).

I now live an intentional life. It’s simple but hard. It’s unstable but exciting. It facilitates immense joy and deep personal growth. I have fallen in love with life on the road and I want to share it with you. I hope my stories make you feel like you are riding shotgun for this wild ride, if only for brief time. So hop in, buckle that lap belt and let’s go!
